About the Practice

About John M. Galant, D.P.M.

A solo podiatry practice in Tenafly where the physician who examines your foot is the same one who plans your treatment, performs your procedure if you need one, and sees you at follow-up.

One doctor, one office, the full range of foot care

John M. Galant, D.P.M. is a solo podiatry practice at 285 County Rd, Tenafly, NJ 07670, treating patients fromTenafly and the surrounding Bergen County towns. The scope runs from pediatric through geriatric care: sports medicine, foot surgery, diabetic foot care, and dermatologic conditions of the foot and ankle are all handled in this one office, by one physician.

That continuity is the point of a solo practice. Your history isn't retold to a new face at every visit, and the doctor deciding whether you need an X-ray is the same one who examined you. The schedule is built for how this town actually works: evening appointments on Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday morning hours mean seeing a podiatrist doesn't have to mean burning a vacation day or leaving the office early.

What an evaluation here looks like

Every visit starts with what your feet are asked to do, because that shapes both the diagnosis and the plan. A daily commute with a walk on each end, a training block on the bike, a season of school sports, or a hike through the Tenafly Nature Center each load a foot differently. Dr. Galant takes that history, then examines the skin, nails, joints, tendons, circulation, and nerve sensation, and watches how you stand and walk when the problem calls for it, since many conditions only show themselves under weight.

Imaging and testing follow the exam rather than replace it. When X-rays or other studies are recommended, you'll hear what question they're meant to answer before they're taken.

Conservative when possible, surgical when necessary

Most foot and ankle problems have a ladder of reasonable treatments, and this practice climbs it in order: footwear and support first, then in-office procedures and injections, with surgery reserved for problems that have earned it. BecauseDr. Galant is trained and board certified as a surgeon, the recommendation to avoid surgery carries weight; it's a clinical judgment, not a limitation of the practice. Patients with diabetes, poor circulation, or neuropathy get an extra margin of caution at every step, because small problems escalate faster in those feet.

Meet the Doctor

Dr. John M. Galant, DPM

Dr. John Galant earned his undergraduate degree at Bates College and his medical degree at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed a two-year podiatric surgical residency in Baltimore, Maryland, training that covers both the conservative and the operative sides of foot and ankle care.

He is board certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Holding both certifications is a meaningful distinction: one examines a podiatrist's surgical skill, the other the medical management of foot disease, and most practitioners hold one or the other. He is also on the medical staff of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and Holy Name Hospital, so when a problem needs hospital-level care, your own doctor manages it there.

His practice covers patients from pediatric through geriatric: sports medicine for athletes and weekend cyclists, surgical correction when deformity or injury requires it, diabetic foot care, and dermatologic conditions of the foot. Whatever your age or activity level, the exam room conversation works the same way: findings explained as the exam goes, options laid out plainly, and the decision left with you.
